Our Story
Why did we create Reconnect?
Our purpose is to use our lived and professional experience to offer a more hopeful view of depression. We aim to help people understand the root cause of their depression rather than trying to numb symptoms. We believe a friendly community and access to support that helps people feel better in their minds and bodies can lead to growth.

2017
Joe had a vision for the support and community he needed while experiencing depression.
2018
Joe travelled throughout Asia and Australia and explored how other cultures view community and mental health.

Joe conducted Reconnect’s research, which involved over 1000 UK adults.
2022
Reconnect was accepted into the Lloyds Bank School for Social Entrepreneurs and UnLtd’s Start-up programmes, which provided grant funding.
2023
Gillian and Joe hosted the Reconnect pilot project, which was evaluated by a researcher from the University of East London.
